Pre-purchase inspection

Should you buy a used Mclaren 720S?

It depends on the individual car, not the model — and the only way to know is to put eyes on that specific vehicle before you pay. Here is what the record says to look for, and what an independent inspector checks on a Mclaren 720S.

NHTSA has issued 2 recall campaigns affecting 20162024 Mclaren 720S vehicles, concentrated in fuel system and service brakes. A recall applies to specific VIN ranges, so any individual car may be affected by all, some, or none of them — which is exactly what an on-site inspection establishes before you pay.

Service brakes

McLaren Automotive Incorporated (McLaren) is recalling certain 2020 570S, GT, 2019 600LT, and 2019-2020 720S vehicles. The brake assembly banjo bolt may be missing the holes that supply brake fluid to the caliper, which would cause the brakes to fail on one corner of the vehicle.

Consequence: Brake failure in one corner can cause the vehicle to pull to one side during braking, and increase the risk of a crash.

Fuel system

McLaren Automotive Incorporated (McLaren) is recalling certain 2016-2020 720S, 2019 Senna, 2020 GT, and 2017-2019 570GT vehicles. The Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) foam pad underneath the fuel tank may retain moisture and corrode the fuel tank, potentially causing a fuel leak.

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
