A comparison we wrote from each company’s published pages
Four services are commonly considered for a pre-purchase vehicle inspection in the United States: Vehicle Inspectors, Lemon Squad, YourMechanic and WeGoLook. Every figure below is taken from each company’s own public website. The read dates are per company and shown in the table. Where a competitor publishes a lower price than ours, it is stated as such.
Lemon Squad publishes the lowest base price at $219.99 for a standard car inspection, $29.01 below our $249 Bronze tier. Vehicle Inspectors’ published difference is in the payment terms, not the price: your card is saved at booking and charged after the inspection is completed, and if nobody accepts within 72 hours, or by the date you set, your saved card is never charged; Lemon Squad’s FAQ says orders are prepaid and cannot be refunded once placed, and its terms say all sales are final. On specialty vehicles Lemon Squad is also lower (EV $249, exotic $285.99, classic $329.99). YourMechanic and WeGoLook do not publish a flat consumer price for a pre-purchase inspection at all.

Now a Crawford & Company on-demand inspection network aimed at insurance and enterprise clients (vehicles, property and documents), not a self-serve consumer pre-purchase product.
On the base car inspection, Lemon Squad is the lowest published price at $219.99 versus Vehicle Inspectors at $249. YourMechanic and WeGoLook do not publish a flat consumer price for a pre-purchase inspection, so a direct price comparison with them is not possible from public information. Lemon Squad pages read on 2026-10-31; the others on 2026-10-19.
For a consumer buying a used car, alternatives include Vehicle Inspectors, YourMechanic and a local independent shop. Vehicle Inspectors lists flat prices from $249, above Lemon Squad at $219.99. YourMechanic quotes first, and a local shop means getting the seller to bring the car in.
Both dispatch a mobile inspector to the seller’s location nationwide and both publish prices online (Lemon Squad’s FAQ notes a mileage fee in some locations). Lemon Squad’s standard inspection is $219.99 versus Vehicle Inspectors’ $249 Bronze; Vehicle Inspectors adds Silver ($349) and Gold ($449) tiers with instrumented measurements that Lemon Squad’s home page does not list. The published difference in terms: Vehicle Inspectors saves your card at booking and charges it after the inspection is completed, and if no inspector accepts within 72 hours, or by the latest date you set when booking, the request closes and your saved card is never charged. Both sell a $49.99 phone call about the report, and both sell a live video option ($79 VI Live, where you join your inspector on video during the inspection; $59.99 Lemon Squad Live).
WeGoLook is now part of Crawford & Company and positions itself as an on-demand inspection network for insurance and enterprise clients covering vehicles, property and documents. It is not marketed as a self-serve consumer pre-purchase inspection product with published pricing.
YourMechanic is a mobile-mechanic marketplace where a pre-purchase inspection is one job type among many repair and maintenance services. Pricing is quoted per vehicle and location rather than published as a flat rate, and availability depends on mechanics working in that metro area.
