Our electric vehicle inspection page lists what our EV inspection includes.

What does each inspection include and measure?

Lemon Squad’s Standard card lists a computer code readout, a hands-on check of the engine, transmission and drive-train, steering, suspension and brakes, a check for signs of accident and flood damage, fluid levels and a road test. Ours covers the systems listed below. Lemon Squad’s terms say a test drive is not a required part of the report (quoted below), and its FAQ says it will test drive a vehicle that is street legal and safe to drive if the seller allows it. The difference is in the instrumented tests listed. Our Silver and Gold tiers add them. Lemon Squad’s Standard card, as published, does not list them.

Lemon Squad

Standard card, as listed on its home page

  • Computer code readout: engine, transmission, ABS, and airbag
  • Hands-on mechanical inspection of the engine, transmission, and drive-train
  • Inspection of the steering, suspension, and brakes
  • Check for signs of previous accident and flood damage
  • Road test
  • Fluid levels check
  • More than 25 pictures

Its Exotic and Classic cards and its EV page list more than 40 pictures; we take 25 or more photos at every tier. The Standard card does not list a battery load test, brake pad and rotor measurement, or paint-depth readings. That describes what Lemon Squad publishes, not what its inspectors do on site.

Vehicle Inspectors

Same systems at every tier, more measurement above Bronze

Every tier ($249, $349, $449) covers the same systems: body and paint, underbody, tires, glass, accident and flood evidence, electrical items, interior, engine, transmission, driveline, steering, suspension, brakes, exhaust, fluids, stored OBD-II (on-board diagnostics) codes on 1996 and newer vehicles, a road test where it is safe, and 25+ photos in a PDF report with a go, caution or stop summary.

Silver ($349) adds

  • Battery load test (measured under load)
  • Brake pad and rotor measurement
  • A/C and heater temperature readings

Gold ($449) adds everything in Silver, plus

  • Extended road test with live OBD-II data capture
  • Full electronics and infotainment audit
  • Paint-depth readings panel by panel

Lemon Squad’s stated limits, in its own words

  • “Pre-purchase inspections are not diagnosis Jobs. Diagnostic equipment is not typically used in a pre-purchase inspection.” (Lemon Squad terms of use, last updated May 2023)
  • “They do not put the car on a lift but may use floor jacks to raise up parts of the car.” (Lemon Squad terms of use, last updated May 2023)
  • “Technicians may test drive vehicles if conditions allow, but a test drive is not a required aspect of a pre-purchase inspection report.” (Lemon Squad terms of use, last updated May 2023)
  • “Therefore any used car inspection cannot be guaranteed.” (Lemon Squad FAQ)

Vehicle Inspectors’ limits

Our inspector does not use a lift and does not take anything apart, so a problem inside a sealed component can stay hidden. The report is a dated record of condition on the day of the visit. It is not a warranty. See a real one on the sample report page, and read how a mobile visit works on the mobile pre-purchase car inspection page.

How long does each take, and when are inspections scheduled?

Lemon Squad says inspections are typically completed within two business days and reports are usually uploaded the morning after the inspection (its FAQ, read 2026-10-31). Our report arrives 24–48 hours after the visit, and dispatch typically takes 24–72 hours before that.

Lemon Squad (FAQ, read 2026-10-31)

  • “Inspections are typically completed within two business days, depending on the inspector’s schedule, the seller’s schedule, and the weather.”
  • “Reports are usually uploaded the following morning that the inspection is done.” (FAQ on its home page)
  • “We do not schedule inspections on weekends. Reports can not be expedited.”
  • “Please note we cannot guarantee a date of an inspection due to factors outside our control.”

Vehicle Inspectors

  • The report is online within 24–48 hours of the visit. That is the only report time we publish.
  • Before the visit, dispatch typically takes 24 to 72 hours depending on the market.
  • If no inspector accepts within 72 hours, or by the latest date you set when booking, the request closes and your saved card is never charged.

How do payment and cancellation terms differ?

Lemon Squad is paid when the order is placed. Vehicle Inspectors saves your card and charges it after the inspection is completed. This is the clearest difference in the published terms. Both charge for some cancellations: Lemon Squad does not refund once the order is placed, and we charge the fee below only after an inspector has scheduled.

Lemon Squad (FAQ and terms, read 2026-10-31)

  • “We are a pre-pay service. You pay for the inspection when you place your order.” (FAQ)
  • “Once your order has been placed we cannot offer a refund.” (FAQ)
  • “All sales are final for inspection Jobs ordered on the LemonSquad website.” (terms)
  • If the vehicle sells before an inspector is dispatched, the FAQ says the order is put on hold and the amount paid can be used toward inspection of another vehicle. The terms say that if it declines to undertake a job, it will promptly refund the services determined unserviceable.

Vehicle Inspectors

  • Card saved securely at booking, charged only after the inspection is completed.
  • If you cancel after an inspector has scheduled your inspection, a $149 cancellation fee is charged to your card on file. No fee if you cancel before an inspector schedules, if your inspector cancels, or if we can't find you an inspector.
  • If no inspector accepts within 72 hours, or by the latest date you set when booking, the request closes and your saved card is never charged.

What do the add-ons cost?

Both companies sell a vehicle history report, a phone call about the report, and a live video option. The video products are described differently, so read each description before you compare the prices.

Who might choose Lemon Squad, and who might choose Vehicle Inspectors?

The right choice depends on the car and on which terms you accept. These are the cases where each published offer fits.

Lemon Squad may fit if

  • The lowest published price matters most. Its Standard inspection is $219.99.
  • The car is a mainstream, lower-priced model and Lemon Squad’s Standard card, as listed above, covers what you need.
  • You accept paying when you order, with no refund once the order is placed.
  • Weekday scheduling, with inspections typically completed within two business days and the report uploaded the following morning, works for your timeline.

Vehicle Inspectors may fit if

  • You want your card charged only after the inspection is completed.
  • You want measured readings: a battery load test, brake pad and rotor measurement and A/C and heater temperatures on Silver, plus paint-depth readings on Gold.
  • The car is higher-value or well-equipped, where Gold’s extended road test and electronics audit apply.
  • You want to watch the inspection by video with VI Live.

Neither inspection removes the risk of a used-car purchase. Each produces a dated report on the day of the visit, and neither is a warranty. See the tiers on the pricing page.
